Cadder Housing Association has commenced the development of 50 new homes for rent on the site of the former St. Agnes Primary School at Tresta Road in Cadder. The new housing development will provide a variety of house types and sizes, which will balance the Association’s stock portfolio and contribute towards the Council’s City Plan. The development of high quality homes will cost £5.9million and will be funded by Housing Association Grant of £3.7m through Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government and £2.2m by the Housing Association. The new housing is scheduled for completion in November 2018.
The Association’s Director, Kenny Mollins said, ‘the development of the former school site, which has lay barren since the school was demolished in 2009 will regenerate this land at the gateway to the community and it is a major milestone in our on-going regeneration of Cadder. We have been delighted to appoint McTaggart Construction who have a track record of achievement of new build housing developments in the housing association sector’.
The Association’s Chairperson, Linda Brown said, ‘the Association has progressed this development over recent years ensuring we effectively managed risk and it was a financially viable and sustainable development opportunity. The new housing will make a further contribution to improving the quality of housing for our tenants and future generations of people living in Cadder and it will enhance the viability of the Association. We would like to thank Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government for the grant funding that makes new building housing viable for housing associations, as well as our lender, Bank of Scotland for their loan of £2.3million for the Association’s contribution towards this development’.
